Volunteering at the Reach Hero Day 2007
This year Henley staff have been invited by Reach, one of Henley Philanthropy’s major beneficiaries, to take part in their programs which can play host to 400 - 500 teenagers. On these days our staff set out to assist the Reach crew to ensure the day runs smoothly, and the kids are able to get the most out of the day.
The volunteers have general logistic roles throughout the day, from setting up the room to serving lunch and making sure the rubbish from lunch ends up in a bin at the end of the day.
Although the tasks are simple, the volunteers come away with a message which is quite meaningful. A Henley volunteer said ‘it wasn’t just the teenagers who walked away with some lessons learnt. I listened and watched just as the teenagers had done. And I have been reminded to not just sit back, letting life pass me by.’
